11/26/2011 - Tire talk...lets not get all "Stretched" out of shape. |
| Honestly, I'm curious why it is that every time I turn around someone is either talking about why you shouldn't be stretching tires or hating on someone with stretched tires. Yes, you are allowed to hate on it...I'm not trying to tell you that you can't but if you're going to hate on something you know nothing about please take the time to make yourself not look mentally handicapped and do the proper research. Personally I have been in the automotive field as a professional for many years, I have stretched numerous tires onto wheels I would never personally run and I have never heard of a single person having an issue unless it was directly related to contacting an obstruction in the roadway. There are two real categories here: - Those who are stretching tires specifically to make a pair of wheels fit the car that otherwise would not fit, thus destroying all possibility of going around a corner with any real fun involved. This generally receives the most hate directed twords it because of the associated risk and the large number of people who ruin a vehicle to acheive it. - Those who are "stretching" tires to gain a mechanical advantage and increase responsiveness while at the same time fitting out the vehicle very well. Generally, people who are ill informed can be found hating on this because they simply do not understand and lump everything together into one huge group of "OMG, STRETCH TIRES YOU DIE". ![]() 225/35 on a 9.5" 225/40 on a 9.5" 215/35 on a 10.5" Above I have provided two acceptable examples of moderate stretch and then one EXTREME example of a much less functional "looks only" stretch. The left and center wheel/tire is a great example of allowing proper wheel fitment without destroying the car/tire/wheel and at the same time possibly increasing handling and overall vehicle responsiveness. The example on the far right is someone who has obviously purchased wheels that do not come close to fitting the vehicle and they are doing this for looks only as this is going to wear faster, ride worse, handle worse and has the ability to become unsafe in certain conditions. Not to mention they're an unholy P.I.T.A to mount. ![]() There is actually a huge difference here, yes they're both stretched but you need to understand that a certain amount of "stretch" is actually a good thing and can reduce tire rollover and sidewall movement and improve handling to a point. Don't believe me? Look to the right. This is a Formula 1 car wheel and tire and as you may notice the center contact area of the tire is inside the edges of the wheel and sidewall providing a more stable platform for cornering. We all know that Formula 1 is the pinnacle of pretty much everything automotive handling and performance related so obviously they know what they're doing here. Realistically if you were to increase the diameter of the wheel or reduce the aspect ratio of the tire you'd have some pretty obvious stretch going on that would look much more extreme than it does. There's a honest and legitimate reason it's done plain and simple, so why all the Hate? Next up: Camber/Alignment! Stay tuned. |

| 11/21/2011 - Updates to the Forum. |
Added some more forum categories I felt were needed, if anyone has a suggestion for more forum topics/ideas please use the "Site Suggestions" section of the forum to do so. I am working on the Facebook page for the website today primarily so hopefully that should be up sometime soon and linked on the main page. I am still working with a supplier for shirts/hats etc so the store will be a few weeks from up and running at the current time. Will update this section further once I finish everything needed for today, Also considering the addition of a Classified/For Sale section of the forums however only time will tell what I decide. |
